The Story

Two childhood friends had a passion for well-made and stylish products, and were sick of seeing things like fast fashion, poor manufacturing, mass production, and a general disregard for the environment plaguing the global supply chain and effecting the quality of consumer goods.

They wanted to make things—cool things—that were still good for both the planet and people. Taking inspiration from brands like Patagonia, Allbirds, and Nudie Jeans, we sought to have an impeccably crafted and designed set of products that were equal parts useful and contemporary.

Role & Responsibilities

I never wore ‘one hat’ at KS Workings. I was in mainly charge of creative directives, editorial, web (including coding) and social media development, marketing, photography, and branding, while my business partner oversaw sourcing, supply chain, textiles research, and financials—although there was lot of overlap in responsibilities.

Product development may be done by my business partner for a release, while I took over procurement. We collaborated in almost every facet of the business.

Ultimately, our focus was on embedding design and sustainability whenever we could.

Conclusion

After almost four years of projects—which included collaborations, experiential marketing events, four different product releases, and profitability by our third year—we saw our leaving of New Zealand for London a natural end point.
